About Hazel

I’m Hazel Abernathy. I grew up on a little farm outside of Dayton, Ohio. My mother was just a girl when the stock market crashed in 1929, and she never forgot those years. Every scrap in her kitchen had a second life, and every penny had a job.

She taught me to plan meals from what was on sale, to stretch one chicken into three suppers, and to keep an envelope of grocery money and stop when it was empty. Those habits still work at today’s prices, so I share them here, one trick at a time.
